SHRED: 4-Day Whitewater Kayak Day Program for Teens
Take your whitewater kayaking skills to the next level with SHRED, a four-day program designed for intermediate paddlers eager to master river running, playboating, and rolling techniques. Paddle on exciting rivers like the Lower and Middle Madawaska, Ottawa’s Middle and Main Channels, and the Petawawa Town Section (water levels permitting).
What’s Included:

Transportation to and from the rivers

Rental of all necessary kayaking equipment

Four days of expert, hands-on instruction
- A report card with specific feedback for each paddler
What’s Not Included:

Meals (please pack snacks, a reusable water bottle, and lunch)

Paddling clothing and footwear (refer to Packing List)

Accommodations (Parents/guardians drop off and pick up. On-site camping and Tiny Home rentals are available for out-of-town families)

What Your Week At SHRED Looks Like
-
- AM: Meet the instructor and group, gear selection and fittings, wet exits, safety briefing, then paddle to lower set to warm up. Head to jessups to practice and review maneuvering (C/S Turns, ferries) in class 2 current. Run the lower set catching eddies and refining moves.
- PM: Back to Jessup’s for more practice, technical instruction on surfing, jet ferries and using the current to assist in maneuvers

- AM: Classroom session to breakdown scouting strategies and apply them to some images/videos of rapids. Head to Jessup’s to find and create some creeky/eddy hopping moves using the strategies we learned. Challenge day 1 moves with more coaching and refinement.
- PM: Back to Jessup’s chute for rolling practice, technical stroke progressions and river running strategies

AM & PM: River Trip to the Middle Madawaska and do two river laps (4km each). Develop scouting skills on a new section and learn mental strategies to manage fear. Skill development throughout the whole day, with eddy hopping, surfing, stroke efficiency and boofing being a main focus.

AM & PM: River trip to Lower Madawaska, improve scouting, river reading, and all the skills from the previous days (surfing, jetferries, eddy hopping, cross current momentum/speed). Expand on skills by challenging with moves in a new environment. Build confidence in varied river settings.

AM & PM: River trip to either the Petawawa or the Ottawa rivers to develop and practice all the skills from the week!
Minimum enrolment of five paddlers required.
