Get certified with Wilderness Advanced First Aid or recertify as a Wilderness First Responder at Paddler Co-op’s Training Centre. The following three course options are available to students for the dates listed above.

4-Day Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) – 40 hrs
An entry-level course designed for professionals working in significantly remote settings for days or weeks. This is an industry standard certification for whitewater canoe or kayak instructors (day courses). Canoe Tripping Guides for overnight expeditions will require a wilderness first responder certification by most companies.

Wilderness Advanced First Aid is comprehensive medical training designed for remote professionals or wilderness leaders who venture into remote and challenging environments. Wilderness Medicine differs significantly from standard first aid courses and other training that are oriented toward urban environments. This course teaches how to manage medical emergencies when hospitals and rescue services may not be available for an extensive time period. We prepare students for emergency situations that involve prolonged patient care, severe environments, and improvised equipment.

2-Day Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) Recert – 20 hrs
This course teaches how to manage medical emergencies when hospitals and rescue services may not be available for an extensive time period. We prepare students for emergency situations that involve prolonged patient care, severe environments, and improvised equipment.

The Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) Recertification course is open to graduates of any wilderness-advanced first aid training course that was at least 40 hours long and completed within 3 years of the proposed recertification option. Successful graduates of this course will receive Wilderness Medical Associates’ Wilderness Advanced First Aid and Adult CPR certifications.

4-Day Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Recert – 40 hrs

Recertify your Wilderness First Responder at Paddler Co-op’s Training Centre this spring or fall. Wilderness First Responder (80 hrs) is the most comprehensive medical training designed for remote professionals or wilderness leaders who venture into remote and challenging environments. This course is the industry standard for wilderness guides leading multi-day canoe or kayak expeditions anywhere in Canada. This recertification course runs concurrently with the WAFA course over 40 hrs.

Recertify before your certification expires! This 4 day course covers it all!
