Beginner Whitewater Kayak or Canoe

Recommended for folks who…
  • Have NEVER experienced whitewater
  • Paddle less than a FEW times a season
  • Want to try a new Whitewater BOAT or discipline
  • Haven’t paddled in YEARS
  • Want to learn to paddle with a new partner who has no experience
What will I learn?
  • How to enjoy whitewater paddling!
  • Proper use of equipment and industry standard safety pratices
  • Strokes required to steer a boat
  • How to perform whitewater maneuvers
  • How to identify whitewater hazards and what to do with them

Gather your friends and organize your own course or book into a scheduled course

Group Courses: $160 per person, per day!

Intermediate Whitewater Kayak or Canoe Course

Intermediate Kayak or Canoe

Recommended for folks who: 

People who get out paddling 1-5 times a season and are looking to tune up their whitewater skills in a relaxed atmosphere.

If it’s your first time out this season, but you hit the water a bit last year, this is the course for you.

What you’ll learn: 

This course is about improving existing skills and adding more tools to your whitewater tool box!

  • Available for kayak, solo or tandem boaters
  • Gather your friends and organize your own course or book into a scheduled course
  • If you are a tandem boater without a partner, no worries, we’ll find you a partner!

 

Group Courses: $160 per person, per day! 

Private Courses: $200 per person, per day!

Advanced Whitewater Kayak & Canoe

Advanced Canoe & Kayak courses are suitable for those with experience in whitewater

Most courses are based here at our site on the Madawaska, however they are tailer made to the clients needs, should an alternative river be a more suitable challenge, arrangements will be made.

  • Learn new techniques to advance your skills
  • Experience the latest instruction style & techniques!

Advanced Kayak Prerequisites:

  • Always rolls in whitewater
  • Self Rescues in Class 3 water
  • Owns personal cold water immersion gear (Dry Top)

Advanced Solo Canoe Prerequisites:

  • Self Rescue in Class 3 water
  • Owns personal cold water immersion gear

Advanced Tandem Canoe prerequisites:

  • Self Rescue in Class 3 water
  • Owns personal cold water immersion gear

We have a range of play boats and equipment for our courses.

Whitewater Guiding

  • Need a guide for a whitewater excursion?
  • Have experience but want an added layer of safety?
  • Want to graduate from flat-water trips to whitewater river adventures?

Our experienced whitewater tripping guides can offer support with river running approaches, whitewater rescue, wilderness safety and general tripping practices up to current industry standards.

Our guides have extensive back country experience, Wilderness First Responder certification & Whitewater River Rescue certification.

ORCKA Canoe and Kayak Certification

In house ORCKA Certified Instructors offer a variety of whitewater canoeing and kayaking certifications & coaching.

River Running

River Running Course or Refresher- 1 or 2 Day 

Recommended For:

  • Individuals or groups looking to practice before a whitewater trip
  • “Park n Play” paddlers hoping to expand their knowledge into multi day trips
  • Also great for intermediate paddlers looking to freshen up current river running strategies and current industry safety practices

What will I learn?

  • Strategies for group management on whitewater river trips
  • Industry standard safety practices for river running

Day 1: Instruction at Palmer Rapids site

Day 2: Preferably a day long river descent down the lower Madawaska… aka “The Day Run”
